Voyeurism is the follow-up painting to Motivation. The two are intended to strike a dichotomy: day and night, active and stagnant, diamond and inverted diamond compositions. Although Motivation is more about the people, Voyeurism is more about the empty space that is inhabited.
My interest in depicting a ‘hive’ type setting is routed in the Boston University campus setting. With this series of panels, the viewer is able to see the identities of the absent occupant through dorm room decor: the strewn alcohol bottles, the atmospheric red Christmas lights, and the poster with cut out eyes. These are the things that make up an identity of the student body without necessarily showing quite as many literal figures.
