Motivation is a compilation plein air paintings of the Boston University gym.  Different vignettes of the scene composed in a variety of canvas sizes creates a zoom-in zoom-out effect much like a camera. The visually bombarding 9.5 foot long piece intends to mimic the hectic nature of a cityscape's billboard ads while still alluding to oil paintings of the French Impressionists.

As physical activities are non-compulsory for university students, they no longer have physical activity necessarily attached to their daily routine. What is unique about these gym-goers is that regardless of their reasoning, these people all have the ‘motivation’ to go work out consistently. No one is there to tell them otherwise, but they simply go out of their own will.  As the overall work consists of 14 individual paintings, the final art piece in itself was achieved through sheer motivation.
